The Evolution of Shade Sails

It is known that the well loved products evolve as years go by. That is true with shade sails and its similar products like awnings and canopies. The very concept of a shade sail before arose from the need to have a covering atop the heads of spectators. They are highly made for commercial uses and then developed into being used as an outdoor functional decoration that many people now want to include outside their houses.

Before, people are not familiar with the term “shade sail.” They are more or less familiar with an awning or simply, a shade. The name originated from the use of the fabric from boats or ships because they are very strong and durable. Sailors used sails to navigate their way across the sea with the help of the wind and they also noticed that their sail can be used as a shade from rain and rays of the sun.

Historically, the concept of a cover came from the ancient times of the Egyptians, Romans and Greeks wherein they used large canvases to cover or shade the audiences who came to seek entertainment in amphitheaters or coliseums. As the old books would describe, the canvases are pulled by the Romans to provide shelter from the sun and the rain.

The development of the fabric continued but the manufacturers saw that the cloth seem to degrade due to long exposures to the sun. They soon saw that the cloth seem to thin or wear out and the color lightens. As the studies for shade sails grew with time, the makers saw to it that the future batch of canvases be treated with special shield from the harmful ultraviolet rays that cause the degradation of the cloth.

Nowadays, much of the products are highly evolved that they provide features that are very useful to the consumers. There are also articles that allow the consumers to search for information about the type of shade sail that they bought. It is sure that as the future looms near, the improvement of the shade sail equipment will prosper and provide newer and better innovations.
