Making your garden a focal point can often be accomplished by the addition of a few accessories. Borders that establish the garden area, features that offer variety in dimension and height, or something whimsical to personalize the area are good ways to accomplish this.
Small garden fence surrounding the area can create a boarder for your garden while taller fencing along one or two sides create a backdrop for your plants. Letting vines or climbing flowers grow onto the taller fence provides more growing area while keeping the fence free of growth gives it a more manicured appearance.
Garden arbours are an excellent feature that can be used to create so many different looks. Placing it so it creates an entrance to the garden makes it seem like an extension of your living area. Putting it inside the garden area provides variety in height as well as additional growing space.
Often more storage is needed for landscaping and gardening supplies, and a shed can be incorporated into the garden area. While the idea of a shed may seem dreary, there are many cheap garden sheds on the market that can made to resemble little cottages or barns. They can be decorated in ways to make them look like the garden was created around them.
Another way to decorate is by adding one or two unusual items that one might not expect to find in a garden. Any type of container can be used for a planter. An old child’s wagon with flowers planted in it looks great and has the advantage of being movable. Or tip a tub or other container onto it’s side and plant flowers to look as if they are spilling out of it.
Once you begin to accessorize your garden, it’s important not to go overboard. If you have an abundance of ideas you can always change things out from time to time to keep it fresh and interesting. Or better yet, add another garden area.
